Winning Interview Techniques

You will not get a second chance to make your first impression! Give yourself confidence for the interview by being well prepared.

Know Yourself

Start by knowing your career goals. Know why you are at the interview and how the position you are being interviewed for can help you achieve them.

Know the Company

Find out about the company. A visit to their website is essential to obtain relevant background information. This will give you confidence and also create the impression that you are serious.

Create the right impression

Dress appropriately for the interview. If you are not sure, find out what their dress code is. Be sure you are punctual. If there is a delay or problem, communicate this to your interviewer.

Know your Strengths

Be prepared for “what are your strengths and weaknesses?” When you talk about strengths, focus on your job skills. Know your weaknesses and how to counter them. Know your achievements because they define your strengths.

Ask Questions

The interview is a two-way process. Answer questions honestly and not with the answer you think they want. Ask questions of your own to establish whether the position suits your career. These should cover structure, reporting lines, key deliverables, career prospects, company strategy and values. This quest to evaluate the opportunity actually helps you market yourself.

Salary

It is unlikely that salary will be mentioned at the first interview. In any event, wait for the interviewer to raise the issue. Be prepared by knowing what your current package is, exactly how it is made up and your price to move.

Body Language

The best advice is simple!...... Act naturally. Be yourself.
